US chip giant NVIDIA and artificial intelligence company OpenAI announced on Monday (September 22) that they have signed a letter of intent to establish a strategic partnership to jointly build an AI data center with at least 10 gigawatts of computing power for training and running next-generation AI models.
According to the statement, NVIDIA will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI over time to support the deployment of related data centers and power infrastructure. The first phase is expected to go live in the second half of 2026, running on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform.
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated, “NVIDIA and OpenAI have driven each other forward over the past decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT. This investment and collaboration marks the next leap forward in the intelligent era—deploying 10 gigawatts of computing power to drive the intelligence of the future.” OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman said, “It all starts with computing power. Computing infrastructure will be the foundation of the future economy, and we will leverage our partnership with NVIDIA to not only create new AI breakthroughs but also empower individuals and businesses on a larger scale.”
